A bit about me
I chose to pursue a journalism degree because I like to write. I chose a communications career because I love connecting with others. My MA in corporate and multi-cultural communications from DePaul opened the door to some incredible opportunities. I’ve been fortunate to work on both sides of the fence – as a client as well as a consultant. These experiences have provided invaluable insight, and continue to ground me in the balance between ideal and practical.
What I’m passionate about at work
I’m still a student. Our clients teach me something new every day, and this knowledge has served me well during cocktail parties and trivia games. I can talk about robotic neurosurgery, industrial construction, civic leadership, academic internal medicine and crowdsourced prediction markets on any given day.
A favorite memory at CS-E
I secured television coverage for a Girl Scout troop in the Austin neighborhood. The girls in this underserved community were looking beyond their own needs, and sewing dresses (made from pillow cases) for girls in Africa. Was it the largest outlet in the country? No. Did it ‘go viral’? Not even close. But it was at that point that I realized the power of storytelling. These nine-year-old girls, with their moms looking over their shoulders, shared their story at a time when it may never have been told, had I not picked up the phone. And that’s pretty cool.
My favorite things to do outside of work
Aside from surviving everyday life, my free time is spent on reading, enjoying (and capturing) photographs, cross-training, and absorbing the waning innocence of my daughters, though not necessarily in that order.
